A couple of places I wanted to give a shout out for :

First, Smitty, of W.C Smith Pipe and Tobacco. This Christmas Jay bought me a cigarette rolling doo dad and I tried looking up Smittys website then, and there was none. I was in there a few days ago to get myself some baccy and cigars for Jay, and mentioned the lack of site. He says they just got one up, so here's the link for anyone interested in online snuff er, I mean tobacco. I don't want crazies looking here for something else. Hee !

Secondly, there is a new British shop in Gainesville, apparently they've been there for 6 months. Hm. It's called The British Nook ( quaint !) Anyway, I picked up some Malteesers and other sweets and talked to them about perishables, such a s meat products, etc. The guy there said he wasn't sure about that, there wasn't enough demand in Gainesville for that stuff, and it would just go to waste. I asked him about a website, and he said they have one, but the cost of shipping may put people off. I told him I pay it, it's worth the extravaggance to have pork pies twice a year . ( And no, I'm not talking about Jays' proweress or lack of in the bedroom ! ) Anyway, here's their site for gifts , movies, sweetes, etc. Hope you look them both up !

Spaz ( cat ) seems to be perking up a bit. I think the antibiotic I give her makes her somewhat dozy because she sleeps most of the day. Which cats do anyway, I know, but she spends 2 hours straight at the door meowing to go out. She did it with me yesterday, and she did it with Jay today.
I was at work and I called a few times and asked Morgan if she still had her lampshade on her head, and he said yes. She was either sitting on the recliner or stairs, and I'm sure some of this docileness is just her body trying to mend itself, too. I put her ear drops in, then wipe with some wet cotton balls. Lots of crap in there. Yum.
And that drainage tube ! It looks like Frankensteins' bolt sticking out the side of her neck.
I came home and took her lampshade off and started bathing her with a warm washcloth, she was just melting. This is the same cat who's name is Spaz for a reason. She's mellowed with old age. I even trimmed some scraggly matted fur, and she didn't flip out. Maybe she can sense we're trying to help her ? Probably not. Jay was spraying her wash bowl with disinfectant, so I was laughing while he told me he didn't want to pick it up and eat out of it. Then, later, as he sat down on the couch he remarked that there was some scungy water drops on the remote. That started me off laughing again, and I told him it was cat fur pus wash water ! He also told me he appreciated that I washed her on the couch where he sits ! Ha !
Anyhoo, I feel better after reading more on ear infections. It could still end up bad news in the end, but I don't think she has what the vet says. What does he know, anyway ? ;o)
Nothing much more to tell , sorry ! I hate it took my cat getting sick to start blogging again, but, there you go. Now you get to read about my sick cat everyday. Joy !

Some info on Nasopharyngeal Polyps .
Nasopharyngeal polyps are relatively uncommon lesions in cats which, when large enough, can be an important cause of chronic upper respiratory signs
No other congenital defects associated with polyps have been described, so this hypothesis is weak. Nevertheless, the lesion does occur in young cats.

Here's where I think this may not affect Spaz :
Signalment and Presenting Clinical Signs: Nasopharyngeal polyps are diagnosed more frequently in young cats (with a mean age at the time of diagnosis of 1-1/2 years) than in older cats.
The most common signs are partial upper respiratory obstruction including respiratory stridor, dyspnea, nasal discharge, sneezing, coughing and dysphagia. Less frequent signs include otitis, typically otorrhea, aural irritation, and vestibular signs such as head tilt.
1st, she's not a young cat ; this would have shown up much sooner.
2nd, she hasn't displayed the symptoms. Snotty, coughing, etc.

It is not unusual for cats to suffer from chronic ear infections over the course of months or even years. Affected cats often have underlying problems in their ears that lead to secondary infections. Any cat with ongoing ear infections should be assessed for middle ear problems, polyps, ear mites and even tumors. Allergies and other systemic disorders may also lead, indirectly, to otitis.
Another web page said that ear mites can cuase destruction, e.g. fungus, infection, then be gone long before the vet takes a peek.
I cross my fingers that this is the case. I still feel I am a bad pet owner.

Very worrisome day. I'd say sad, but it's not good to be pessamistic, right ?
I'd noticed a week ago the cat was not acting like herself, and just put it down to old age. Lethargic, not like her usual spritely self. When I pet her a few days ago I got a whiff of yuck. Smelled like crap. That's not like her. Last night as she sat beside me, I noticed she'd scratched the fur off under her right ear. I told Jay that was it, I was taking her to the vet on Monday. This morning, she followed me downstairs and I thought, ' Man, does her skin look awful there.' I grabbed her and held her head and this pus squirted out and ran down her neck. She didn't even flinch, which is a bad sign, because she's a vicious bitch. So I sat down with the yellow pages looking for emergency Saturday vets, and it turns out that some vets have Sat. hours. So I called up and they said come in. I went up and woke up Jay and told him I was taking her in.
I put her in her cage, and off we went. This pus is contiuously flowing, and smelled like crap, this is what I smelled the other night. She'd shake her head and it's flying everywhere, no matter how much I'd wipe it, it was there a few minutes later. I'm feeling overwhelmingly guilty, because I'm not a great pet owner, shots, vet's visits, etc. I'm thinking, what have I done ? And I told the assistants this, the vet, and they all say, " It's okay. It's not your fault." I finally told the vet, " You're supposed to tell people that , right ? " I'd already admitted that for a few weeks now I'd told Jay that we'd needed to take her, I'm the worst procrastinator. I'd thought for sure that it was ear mites , and she'd scratched half of her face off in an effort to be rid of them.
God I feel awful.
The assistant took a rectal temperature, and I'm glad I had Spaz wrapped in a towel for that. Not nice.
The vet looked in her ear and said it was infected, and he'd clean it out and see what was up. I sat there for half an hour, and he came back and told me he couldn't get a clear look down her ear canal since it was so inflamed, but he thinks there's a polyp, a growth in there that's called 'nasocharyngal polyp'. He said, not 100% sure, but very sure. Supposedly, the growth was irritating her, so she scratched it raw, and that's what caused the infection and pus.
We wait a week, then see once the inflammation has gone down. If that's what it is, he said, then they'd have to cut the ear canal out. Nice, huh ? And even then it could grow again. Not cancer, just a ' polyp '. What he was saying, without saying it, was that if she does have it, you could put her through a traumatic surgery, remove her hearing from one ear, and it'll just come back, eventually.
So, in so many words : think seriously about her having to be put down.
When we left there, I was crying so hard that I drove 55mph for 5 minutes in 4th gear. Now I'm neglecting my car. The I came home, surprised to see Jay up and about, and took my frustrations out on him for not opening the door for me. When I tried to tell him what the vet had said, I choked up, and couldn't speak. The tears just threatened to come. Same thing happened when Charles called later, asking what was wrong with Spaz. I started to tell him, then told him " growth ", and told him I couldn't tell him anymore, it was just too hard. I find it easier to write, though. Morgan ( my son ) asked, and I had to tell him through tears, all the while trying to paint a prettier picture. After all, the vet maybe wrong, she doesn't have a polyp.
And look on the bright side : She is, after all, 14 years old. Long ago could she have ran off, been squished by a car, or just plain died of old age ? I'm actually tearing up writing this, because those are things I did expect to end the life of my dear Spaz, not with a needle, damnit ! Aw, shit, gotta go !

it's been so long ! It's been so long I don't know what to say, really.
The months are just flying by. I just got back from walking with Rachel around the track, she's lost alot of weight, I guess I need to be motivated. ( I sure sound like it, right ? )
We walked up and down the hills in my neighborhood last week, and we could barely speak during the whole excursion.
We got our new entertainment center last week, our 19 inch tv looks funny in it. It's a roughly hewn piece of furniture, Jay's laughing because it looks like frontiersmen made it using no power tools whatso ever. He says it fits the house, and he must be right, because this house looks like it was slapped together using no craftsmanship either. ( Sorry, Jay, I couldn't help it ! ) He read the card hanging off the handle , which read, ' Crafted by Mexican artisans, the look of the frontier brought to your home, blah blah...' Jay called it a good marketing ploy, you have a warehouse full of this stuff, and you think, ' how are we going to unload this shit ? People keep getting splinters just walking by it ? I know ! Mexican frontier artisans ! People eat that shit up ! '

So very, very lax...
Sorry, guys ! You should be used to this by now, anyway...
Brief update ( as usual ) I called my brother on his birthday, and he was telling me about renting movies on ( netflix.com ), I informed him ( with a laugh ) that we were behind the times, and didn't have a DVD player. Then I heard some keyboard clatter, and he asked me what my home address was. After I told him, he informed me I would be recieving such object soon. Not onlt that, it was a DVD and a VCR player in one ! Mad extravagant fool !
I finally found my friends', Dale and Simone, only to find out they're getting married next month ! Congrat's to them both !
Then Diana cheerfully informs me she's betrothed for July ! I can only make it to Dianas, of course, so I better get my best shit-face on. Oh, wait, it's already there !
On the way down to Judi and Charles', I ordered my extravagant entertainment center, to go along with my new DVD player ( and 14 year old 19 inch TV ) hint hint,LEX.
Dad's scars are healing nicely, Mabs is doing great, this weekend running around with her grandkids ---
And I spoke to my Mum about getting her a ticket over, whch Judi generously offered to pay half. How cool is that ? Morgan and I spent the weekend in the sun, I even got a new swimsuit from Judi and Chaz that didn't resemble the hippo from 'Fantasia' tutu!
